Fire and Restoration Research Hub, December 2021

Recordings of NCC’s 12th Biennial Bushfire Conference, Cool, Warm Hot: the burning questions are now available on the Fire and Restoration Research Hub. Catch up on three days of presentations by leading fire and ecology experts including Former Commissioner of Fire and Rescue NSW Greg Mullins, Minister for Energy and Environment Matt Kean, Emeritus Professor and author Bill Gammage, Professor David Lindenmayer, Dr Mark Ooi and many more. As part of the conference, attendees headed out into the field for a field day to North Head. Read all about the day and discussions had about a recently escaped hazard reduction burn.

The website also has a wealth of new resources from the Threatened Species Recovery Hub, including a webinar on saving wildlife after bushfires, and two fact sheets: one on protecting threatened species and ecological communities from fire; and one on protecting native mammals in predator-invaded post-fire landscapes. Also, check out a new initiative funded by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment that combines western scientific methods with the traditional knowledge of the Gumbaynggirr People on the Mid North Coast, the Gumbaynggirr Good Koala Country Plan.
