Welcome to the team! NCC ecologist Hannah Etchells

NCC has welcomed a new Hotspots ecologist, Hannah Etchells. Hannah will be working in the central and southern parts of the state while longstanding NCC ecologist Kevin Taylor will now be focussing on the central and northern zones

Hannah has moved across the country from Perth to join the team after completing her PhD research on the ecological impacts of large-scale mega-fire events in eucalypt forests and heathlands in southwest Australia.

Hannah spent 2018 as a Fulbright Scholar comparing similarities and differences in wildfire impacts and prescribed burning between Western Australia and California at the University of California, Berkeley.

She is an advocate for taking a cross-disciplinary, internationally collaborative approach to fire management, and is passionate about involving local communities in ecological management and bushfire recovery.

Hannah will be working from Coledale in the Illawarra and at the Nature Conservation Council’s Sydney office, in Chippendale.
