Great response to SEQFBC Forum 'Fire, Frogs and Orchids'
Monday, 29th June 2015
The forum focused on new and emerging fire science as well as fire research currently being conducted on the Island and the aftermath of the January 2014 bushfire.
Speakers included Dr Katrin Lowe (recent Griffith University PhD graduate) who spoke about “acid frogs” (i.e. frogs that can tolerate the acidic waters of eastern Australia’s coastal wallum swamps and wet heathlands) and resilience to wildfire. Delegates spent the afternoon on one of two field trips in the Blue Lake section of Naree Budjong National Park to gain insight into flora and fire management on the island.
