Phil Paterson (Hotspots Facilitator for the south of the state), was Operations Officer in the Incident Management Team (IMT) for the Deans Gap fire on the South Coast. This role involved coordinating the fire fighting effort in real time. An emergency warning was issued for residents during this fire which came extremely close to many properties. Coincidently, Phil had recently run a Hotspots Program with residents at Tappitallee, who were almost impacted by this wildfire.
Bruce Hansen (Hotspots Facilitator for west of the state) pictured right, along with his local brigade (Orange) assisted fire fighting efforts at the Watershed Stud fire near Boorowa. He also conducted bush fire impact analysis on properties that were unfortunately destroyed or damaged by the Cobbler Road wildfire near Harden. This work involved collecting data relating to fire behaviour, impact on structures and social surveys with residents. Jessica Wells our Acting Hotspots Coordinator conducted bush fire impact analysis at the Cobbler Road fire as well. She also supported the Fire Behaviour Analysis team at NSW Rural Fire Service Head Office, using data on weather and fuels to predict the spread of fire from an ignition point.
